The hunt begins...
After careful consideration of the evidence, we have pieced together a timeline of the night in question...
There was money in my wallet when I bought a ticket to see Sideways and went into Cinema 9 at Broadway Hoytz. There was no money in my wallet when I went to use it again.
During the course of the movie, while my bag was on the floor next to me (stupid, I know... but there was hardly anyone in the cinema) the money from my wallet and my beloved camera were taken away.
Not all of the people who answer the phone at pawn shops are helpful.
So, dear readers, I appeal to you. If you find yourself walking past a pawn shop and you have a spare five mins, could you please pop in and ask if they have a Fujifilm Finepix S5500 (it had a 256 xD card in it if that helps)... and if they do, could you please contact me as quickly as possible with any means you have at your disposal.
Thankyou. That is all.

I'd suggest reporting it stolen to the police. From what I understand (properly run) pawn/second hand shops have to regularly supply lists of stock they've received that the police cross reference with their database. Atleast that's the case with second hand cd shops.
If the camera didn't have any distinguishing features (I must remember to etch something nice in to my camera's base) then it might be harder. But still worth a go.
done and done...
though I'm afraid to say the general vibe from the people who answer the phone at pawn shops is a studied unhelpfulness.
Apart from an unusually large memory card and a sticky residue on the side of the camera from where the dymo label peeled off there's no distingushing features :(
oh claire :( that sucks...... you loved that camera so dearly!!!!!!!!

Aw :( That totally sucks.
I know they'll say they take no responsibility, but have you let the cinema and centre manager know? Written to the local paper? It's a hassle, but I'm all for alerting as many people as possible and making it harder for those batsrads to strike again. Even if they are bastards with decent taste in cinema.
*hugs*
i guess it wasn't insured? :'( take out insurance kids! (says she, whose drum gear is all uninsured.) damn, hope it turns up somewhere.
oooooh I feel so sorry for you! It is such a beautiful camera as well!
I really hope you get it back. George St Cinema's are very nice but you just have to hold onto your bag while you are there alot of thefts have happened there before (and bashings etc)
Ouch! That is one awesome camera, I'd be crying for weeks over that one! How did anti valentines go?
Thanks for the well-wishes guys!
never fear though - photographer portek will be back in business shortly thanky to a fantastic mentor of hers, an interest-free loan and ebay. Stay tuned.
Oh, and anti-valentines is tonight... see you all there!
that totally sucks, nice camera too. ill keep an eye out for whats its worth... must have been an enthralling movie, or a really sly theif.
That sux. It's a fine camera. If you don't get it back, perhaps you can console yourself with the fact that the prices of digital cameras are dropping every week.
After all, photography is 1 part camera, 9 parts photographer.
